Useful network numbers

If you have a computer with a fixed IP-address 136.155.52.x , where x is a number between 6 and 149 (given to you by the system administrator), then you also need to specify the following

bulletDNS: 136.155.200.90 and 136.155.205.90
bulletDefault Gateway: 136.155.52.1
bulletSubnet mask: 255.255.255.0

NOTE!
If your computer is a DHCP client (i.e. using dynamic IP addressing) none of these values should be set manually.

bullet ladybird

ant.mrc.ks.se (Linux Redhat 7.3) [IP: 136.155.52.105]

bulletNIS master server for all Linux workstations
Accounts, automounting, hosts, netgroups etc.

bulletLicense server (flexLm)
Gives out license keys for computers running e.g. Matlab It ant is down no one can run Matlab (however see ladybird below)

bulletNFS server
Allows UNIX/Linux computers to access the shared RAID 5 disk "/raid5"

bulletSAMBA server
Allows Windows users to access their Linux home directory (on fly:/export/home) and the shared RAID 5 disk "/raid5"
NOTE! Only works for Windows computers on the MRC net (136.155.52.x)

bulletData storage
ant has currently one 250GB SCSI RAID5 disk (named: /raid5), shared via NFS and SAMBA

termite.mrc.ks.se (Linux Redhat 8.0) [IP: 136.155.52.106]

bulletNIS slave server to ant
Keeps NIS services up and running even if ant is down or rebooted

bulletBackup server
Termite has a 1.2 TB disk named /backup under which the following disk systems are being backed up daily:

fly:/export/home 754 GB Linux home directories
fly:/usr/local 29 GB Local linux programs
ant:/raid5 250GB Common data disk
ladybird:/export/home 17GB SUN home directories
ladybird:/usr/local 5GB Local SUN programs

NOTE Incremental backups are made everyday except Mondays. This means that an accidently erased file on one of these disks may be recovered from the backup until every Monday, when a full backup is made.

fly.mrc.ks.se (Linux Redhat 8.0) [IP: 136.155.52.109]

bulletDHCP server
Gives out IP addresses between 136.155.52.150 and 136.155.52.254 to any computer @MRC

bulletFILE server for all Linux workstations
Handles the Linux home directories (/export/home) and local programs (/usr/local)

/usr/local 29GB Local Linux programs
/export/home 754GB Linux home directories

ladybird.mrc.ks.se (SUN Solaris 7.0) [IP: 136.155.52.5]

bulletNIS+ server
Accounts, automounting, hosts, netgroups etc. for the SUN workstations

NOTE 1
The number of SUN workstations at MRC are decreasing. The reasons of continuing maintaining the SUN environment is mostly that
* the image transfer program from the MRC1 scanner has to be run on either ladybird or cicada
* Automated CD-burning from MRC1 is done to cicada

NOTE 2
The NIS+ for the SUN workstations and NIS for the Linux workstations are completly separate. If you want to login to both types of systems you need two accounts.

bulletLicense server (flexLm)
Gives out license keys for computers running e.g. SUN C/C++, IDL, Matlab 6.0 (not maintained in the future).

bulletNFS server
Allows UNIX/Linux computers to access the the disk on ladybird
